Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
1. WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE?
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." - Timo Cruz (Coach Carter)
2. WHAT DID YOU FIND HARD ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE?
Breaking bad habits and not letting myself slip back into them.
3. HOW DID YOU OVERCOME IT?
Support, consistency and discipline
4. WHAT DID YOU ENJOY THE MOST?
The Mana environment and encouragement not only from the coaches, but from other members.
5. WHAT WAS THE NUMBER ONE HABIT THAT YOU DIDN’T FEEL COMFORTABLE TO LET GO OF?
Eating take out and “junk” foods like chocolate.
6. IS IT STILL HOLDING YOU BACK OR HAVE YOU CONQUERED IT? HOW?
I do slip up from time to time but try to remain focused and think of how my body performs and feels when being fuelled right.Usually when I am underprepared or haven’t meal prepped is when I will go to take out options.
7. DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR SOMEONE WHO MIGHT BE IN THE SAME POSITION AS YOU WERE, BEFORE STARTING THIS JOURNEY?
It doesn’t matter how slow you go as long as you don’t stop moving, motivation isn’t always around so build healthy habits instead. Everyone slips up and everyone makes mistakes but it’s how you respond after that counts.
8. ARE THERE ANY LESSONS THAT YOU LEARNED?
Eating the right foods more regularly doesn’t actually put on weight; instead it does the complete opposite!
9. TELL US A FUN FACT THAT NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT YOU?
I played the violin for 10 years and performed at the Sydney opera house 3 times as well as Hisense Arena in front of 15,000 people.
10. WHAT IS YOUR MESSAGE TO OTHERS AND WHAT LEGACY DO YOU WANT TO LEAVE BEHIND?
Being a female in a mostly male dominating sport, I am a huge advocate for equality within the clubs. I have a huge passion in growing women's participation in sport and encouraging women to participate in any sport they desire. Encouraging women to give anything a go despite the ‘stereotype’. I would love to continue watching women’s sports grow and watch the younger generations have opportunities that were not around for me. Random fact: over 57% of females stop playing sport by the age of 24. I believe this statistic would be lowered if the resources were available to women such as teams and club support, and I am determined to continue growing women’s sports.
